During the Spring semester 2010, I had the opportunity to study abroad for 6 months in London, England at the University of Westminster. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. With the help of the Gilman International Scholarship program I was able to prepare financially for my education abroad. The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. I was a recipient of the Gilman International Scholarship for spring 2010, and was awarded $4,500 to put towards my abroad expenses. I know that without the help of the Gilman program my dream of studying abroad would not have been possible. I recommend to any student preparing or thinking about studying abroad to apply for the Gilman scholarship. If you have always aspired to travel and leave the comfortable surrounding of a familiar place in search of seeing what else the world has to offer then studying abroad is for you. Take advantage of the opportunity while it last, because it will not last forever.
